![]() ![]() The Helios 3D #8 handles large flies and heavy sinking lines with ease, yet feels lighter than most other 8 weight rods. Perfect for light tropical saltwater or pike fishing. Normally we would only choose a heavier model if we are fishing very large and heavy streamers or if we are targeting fish that need even more fighting power. When it comes to effortless long casts all day long, the 9ft #7 really hits the sweet spot. We recommend fishing this rod with a head weight of 17-19g, making it the perfect rod for streamer fishing on larger rivers, lakes and of course inshore fishing. ![]() The Helios 3D in #7 is the perfect all-round streamer rod and perhaps our favourite of the Helios 3D range. If you want to fish light, but still don't want to compromise on distance and performance, this is the rod you're looking for. The Heliso 3D #6 is your perfect lightweight streamer rod whether you are fishing for big browns in rivers, big deep lakes or inshore. This model is perfect if you are looking for an all-round rod for river fishing or a very light inshore rod. This model is still light enough to provide a great experience when fishing with dry flies, but can already handle weighted streamers and sinking lines. The 9ft #5 is the classic all-round rod, whether you're fishing dry flies, nymphs or steramers. If you're looking for a lightweight all-round rod, consider the Orvis Helios 3D 9ft #4. It has enough finesse to cast small dry flies 5-10m upstream, but also enough power to cast smaller streamers effortlessly on a calm day on the coast. The 4-weight model is the perfect choice for light fishing in medium to large rivers, lakes or ultra-light inshore fishing. Due to its very fine and responsive tip section, this rod also works extremely well at short distances, but its very stable middle and lower sections allow you to make very long casts with incredible control and precision. In the right hands, this rod generates perhaps the highest line speed we have ever experienced without excessive power and effort. Also, I have lifted, moved and fought cumbersome stripers, bluefish and bonefish with the rod, leading me to believe their claims that the new design, resins and building techniques do, in fact, equate to a stronger, lighter more accurate fly rod.Definitely one of our favourite rods ever, the Helios 3D performs simply outstanding! Orvis have put a lot of thought and expertise into the material and taper design and you can really feel that when you pick up this rod, but even more so when you cast it for the first time. They use machines and computers to take some of the guesswork out of their strategy and design. Orvis has taken a scientific approach to the design of the Helios 3. As far as Orvis’ claim that it is 20% stronger than it’s predecessor, I do not doubt it for two reasons. I have no problems loading the rod for close shots and have yet to run out of power for longer shots. With extensive testing thus far, I have found the Helios 3D to be an absolute pleasure to cast and to lift and move fish with. Sage X and Scott Meridian, we are looking at you. It stands at the top of the heap with some of the industry’s finest fly rods to date. Properly lined with a 9-weight Rio Direct Core Flats Pro line, the lightweight stick packs power and accuracy. The 3D is nothing short of a state of the art casting and fish fighting tool. I have fished the 9-weight Helios 3D for the past several months, starting with a windy day in the Bahamas in March and then frequently on the flats of Long Island this Spring. ![]()
